When we are faced with a quick, and severe, downhill putt our hope quickly becomes pretty simple “please don’t let it fly way past the hole!” The thought of making it, doesn’t even enter our mind – an easy 2nd putt would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few different schools of thought, but the one that is easiest to learn is to hit the putt off the toe of your putter. By the way, there is a video by Titleist that says you should never putt off the toe because, yes it will take energy away from the ball, but it won’t go in because it will drift – who cares as long as it ends up anywhere near the hole. In this video Jeremy Hayman shows why hitting off the toe works.
