Patriot Day for Folds of Honor

This is the second year I participated in Patriot Golf Day, at the Vineyards Country Club in Naples Florida, which benefits the Folds of Honor. What makes this program special is highlighted by the Folds of Honor mission statement, “To close the gap, providing educational support to spouses and children of America’s fallen and wounded soldiers.”

The Folds of Honor has, thus far, provided 7500 scholarships to the spouses and children of our war heroes, and at our Patriot Golf Day we got the chance to meet some of the recipients. It was a very uplifting day, made even more poignant because of the participation of young ROTC high school boys and girls – the future heroes of America. Tom Metzger, the Director of Golf at the Vineyards, does an outstanding job of making this an event that makes you feel good no matter how you play that day.

Patriot Golf Day is a national program, in association with the PGA, and each golf club celebrates this day in their own way. Kark Kimbal, Director of Golf at the Hillandale Golf Club in Durham NC, created a beautiful memorial, “Fairway of Honor”, using the golf course itself as his palette. His tribute honors all those from North Carolina killed in action during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just click on the video, and ignore the text which only repeats what is in the video.
